Mens Fitness Photo Shoot 2008
In 2008 I was interviewed by Mens Fitness magazine for their “last page success story” and was asked to hire a photographer to do a photo shoot for the article. Well, so happens my fiance is a professional photographer, so we went out to one of my favorite locations in Edmonton, the Royal Glenora stairs, and did the shoot. This is one of the photos.

Rob, I’m awed by your accomplishment! I thought I would be moving mountains to lose 50 pounds in 5 months but I feel like a wimp compared to you. I start my new life on August 1 and expect to lose all 50 by December 31. When I hit that goal, I may go for another 15 pounds. And it’s all because of the inspiration I’ve felt from guys like you, who have carved the trail for me. Here’s hoping that others who need that inspiration will find you.

after the weight loss, do you have extra skin? If so, how do you deal with that? hide it? surgery?
August 10th, 2009 at 5:41 pm
Rob–thank you for the article on the last 10–I have been saying and thinking it is so so hard–I have already dropped 12– 10 more to go so now I will say it is going to be easy, fun and doable-thanks again -awesome job on your health journey-God Bless and you are helping lots of folks get healthy!

No extra skin after weight loss to deal with @Dave. The natural weight loss methods I teach people about nourish the body in such a way that the skin tightens up.

You look awesome! and youre an inspiration!

Wow you are amazing. I have always been a restriocted eater to be thin. I just had a baby in December and actually gained 51 lbs. It was all belly and I was in good shape (5 ft 3 – 133 lbs pre-pregnancy)
I have lost 42 lbs from eating right and excercising with cardio & weights (Gilad’s DVD’s). The last few seem harder but it’s true that it’s because we look so much better that we slow down on excercise and eating right. Now is the time to be stronger not weaker.
I am a stong willed person and keep looking at sites on how to lose the last 10 when it’s the same as what I already know, we just need to admit to ourselves that we need to be more commited not less during this time. Thanks Rob for slapping me back into reality.

Excellent Job losing that weight Rob. It always feels good to think about how far you’ve come. I went from 260 to 185 during the summer before my senior year of high school. It felt really good to come back to my senior year rejuvenated. @ Othman – Dubai. I ended up with some extra skin because I lost my weight so quickly. The best thing I can tell you about extra skin is not to worry about it. I found the best way to keep the skin from sagging is to make sure you are loosing at a good pace. If you loose too quickly your skin won’t bounce back as well. I have a little bit of extra skin but I’ve learned not to let it bother me. All the skin around the face tightens back up and it is really nice to compare the multi-chinned version of myself to the current. I’ve heard of some creams and stuff that may help. Never be afraid to go to a doctor and consult them about that. A dermatologist or a nutritionist undoubtedly know a thing or two more than I do about that. @ Rob. This website is a really great tool for motivation. You’ve done an excellent job here and have truly turned your life around — congrats!

p.s. do you have any tips for keeping weight down whilst trying to give up smoking? my doctor just says that most people gain weight whilst trying to quit, but i just couldn’t bear it. i dont know if you are an ex-smoker or not, but either way your advice would be very much appreciated! xxx

Wow, your story is pretty amazing, I was overweight all my life until nearly a year ago. I started at 6′2″ and a little over 250 pounds. Now at 175 pounds I am really trying to put some muscle on. I use kettlebells and body weight. I was on weight and bench, until recently. I do cardio about once a week, (treadmill). My diet, or lifestyle choice of eating is pretty open, I don’t eat anything processed, or fried at all. I cheat on Saturday’s but i usually just over eat a little, not too much. I have put on some muscle, but mostly I am just getting cut and have a little skin to deal with, but it is shrinking over time.
Any Suggestions?

Wow, you certainly look like the kind of man I’d walk into a lampost staring at now – amazing transformation!!!
I’m starting my transformation this year and feel very inspired by you – I’m a vegan and have 56 pounds to lose *tut*.
It’s amazing how in the first photo of you thin you look like a really middle aged nerdy guy and hadn’t found your feet or style as a thin person yet look at you now – incredible! I’ve seen that a lot – people lose loads of weight and start wearing weird inapropriate clothes

Wow Rob, Looks like you’ve had quite the journey! You must be so proud of where your are at now!!
I sell Arbonne and have recently started our teams 28 Day Challenge in Healthy Living and Eating. It’s amazing how much better I feel just with eating heathier (ha! “Just with”…). I was researching almonds and their benefits (curious about if you can eat too many in a day) and came across your blog. Love the info you have here!
Arbonne has amazing protein shakes and weight loss products, if you’d like some samples, email me and I’ll send you some!

I am new to this web site. I recently read an article about finding a weight loss role model. The article said to never pick someone who has not been where you are and who has not gotten to where you want to be. These fitness gurus that have always been at the right weight or have really turned their lives around when the lost that extra 15 pounds are not what I need. Your site is great. You will be a wonderful role model.
By the way. the “skinny” picture of you looks like your current picture’s dad. Way to take it the next level!

Hi Rob,
Congrats on all your successes! And thank you for sharing with the world. I’m sure many are inspired by your story.
I’ve personally never dealt with weight. My body doesn’t gain weight when I eat poorly, but I had many other symptoms that led me to make major changes with food and lifestyle.
Thanks for all the good info!
Blessings,
Luke

Hi Rob, question here. How tall are you ? I’m guessing 6 ft. I follow your website frequently and I’m now at 230 lbs (started at 250 in December ‘09), my goal is to reach 200 and see how I’m going to look, I’m using weight training and cardio, it’s really helping me, your tips are also great, thanks. Charlie.
