Catchy isn’t it? I’ll tell you, I put a lot of faith in the universe. I trust it’s timing on everything and of late, I’ve been directed
towards familiarizing myself with this whole alkaline / acid balance thing.
What does this have to do with weight loss? Let me explain.
When I began my weigh loss journey from 475 down to 187, for a total drop of 288 pounds, I began by eliminating some specific foods from my
diet and then increasing others. I was doing what I knew from television ads, magazines etc and from what I had read in some books.
The specific foods I got rid of were fried foods, vinegar, salt and dairy while I increased whole foods, fruits and vegetables. What
I had done in essence was remove fatty, low fiber foods and increased fresh whole foods. I had always said that I went on a
“low fat, high fiber diet”. Along with that, I am realizing that the foods I chose and eventually gravitated towards were less acidic
and more alkaline. Hmmmm, interesting. Recently I was asked to do an interview for a friend in Washington and in the pre-interview
the friend and I were talking about her newfound weigh loss success. She didn’t have a lot of time to go into it then, but she said she
was following a highly alkaline diet and the fat was just dropping off her. I’ll get back to her in a moment. Then just a week or two
ago I noticed an article on a trusted friends website about distilled water being bad and why he had chosen to end his drinking of it.

The fact that my whole thinking about the value of distilled water had been thrown out the window stunned me. I had stopped drinking pure
distilled water about 18 months ago when I was approached by a fellow and asked to try this “water filter machine” which filters tap water and
then uses a process to make it more alkaline. I can set the level of alkalinity by choosing a setting. Frankly, I made some interesting notices
when I changed over. I noticed that the water had taste, which distilled does not. But I also noticed that my recovery time from my leg workouts
dropped. I was sore for a day and that was that. I noticed that my fingernails changed again too. Hmmm, more interesting stuff. I paid about
$1200 for this machine so I’m still using it (it’s called the Regenesis 2000 and I’ve found that the name has changed to the Regency II ?).
Then just a couple of weeks ago (again with the timing of the universe), I was being called back to distilled. I went out and bought a jug of it.
It tasted soooo gooood. That’s when I found this article about distilled water. I started reading around. I’ve posted two articles about

I’ve had some information stored on my computer about the benefits of eating alkaline, and it’s like “I know about 70% of it, and follow it 70%
of the time, but don’t’ really know…” you know? I am the type of person who can read something, accept it’s values and merit in fully understanding
it while I read it, and then I just have no need to remember the details. Others know everything and why and can quote it like verse. Well,
I got out those old documents and am incorporating them into this article.
Oh, so my friend in Washington.? I called her today to ask her the secret of her alkaline diet magic. No magic at all. She’s been following the
principle’s outlined in Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle which I just reviewed.

She also increased her alkaline vegetables and grains and incorporating some deep breating exercises designed to fully oxegenate the blood.
It’s only with fully oxygenated blood that we can burn fat. Think of a candle with the fat being our fat, the wick being the carbs and the
oxygen around it all required for burning. Put a glass over the candle and it goes out. This is why exercise is so important to any fat loss
program and why aerobics or cardio makes our muscle more efficient.
When I began exercising when I was at 385, it was a walking program and I focused the whole time on deep breathing while I was doing it.
The purpose as far as I was concerned was the deep breathing and fully oxygenating my blood, not the exercise.
But I digress.

sipped on Pepto Bismol during my sleep)

Celery
As my friend Melissa put it when she sent me this tip,
“Raw celery possesses the correct amount of whatever that instantly seems to neutralize and calm down an upset stomach. Natural antacid, they call it.”
And, as Margaret later explained in more detail,
“The whatever that celery has is an alkaline pH, and that’s why it neutralizes the acidity of heartburn. Eating it raw or
drinking the juice in combination with other greens, plus apple, carrot, etc is a great way to alkalize and cure a lot of other problems
besides the heartburn! I have used it frequently in lieu of antacids or Rx remedies!”
Dr Mercola has this to say about vegetables in reference to alkalinity:

See, it’s that easy. Increase your vegetables, decrease dairy or remove completely and cut back on animal protein.
Ten Recipes
All you need to do is find at least ten recipes that you like. That is all that most families use. You might have to try ten recipes to
find one that you and your family enjoy, but that is ok as it is all part of the process. It is vitally important to have a variety. Do NOT
rotate between two or three meals or you will burn out and stop the program. Variety is the key.
What is this Alkaline Acid balance thing?
Alkalize Or Die A very powerful statement that is not made lightly If You Are Concerned About Your Health Do the Saliva pH
Test A simple test you can do to measure your susceptibility to cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis, arthritis, and many other
degenerative diseases. Wait at least 2 hours after eating or drinking juices. Fill your mouth with saliva and then swallow it.
Do this again to help ensure that the saliva is clean. Then the third time, put some saliva onto pH paper. The pH paper should
turn blue. This indicates that your saliva is slightly alkaline at a healthy pH of 7.4. If it is not blue, compare the color
with the chart that comes with the pH paper. If your saliva is acid (below pH of 7.0) wait two hours and repeat the test.
You can use the pH paper to measure both the saliva and urine pH levels of your body. The pH papers are a powerful tool
for monitoring your pH balance system. pH testing also provides us with a way to take a more proactive role in our health.
We can detect and start to correct the pH imbalances in our systems before they manifest as symptoms of disease. The
pH tests are easy and quick. All you need are pH papers and the instructions for interpreting your results.
When healthy, the pH of blood is 7.4, the pH of spinal fluid is 7.4, and the pH of saliva is 7.4. Thus the pH of saliva parallels the extra cellular
fluid… pH test of saliva represents the most consistent and most definitive physical sign of the ionic calcium deficiency syndrome. The pH of
the non-deficient and healthy person is in the 7.5 (dark blue) to 7.1 (blue) slightly alkaline range. The range from 6.5 (blue-green is weakly
acidic to 4.5 (light yellow) which is strongly acidic represents states from mildly deficient to strongly deficient, respectively.
Most children are dark blue, a pH of 7.5. Over half of adults are green-yellow, a pH of 6.5 or lower, reflecting the calcium deficiency of aging
and lifestyle defects. Cancer patients are usually a bright yellow, a pH of 4.5, especially when terminal.
PH level of the skin
It’s interesting to note that the skin is slightly acidic in it’s normal healthy state and needs to be in order to work as our first
line of defense for our immune system. Also interesting to note is that most soaps are alkaline in nature and strip this acid mantle
off our skin. When I found this out using some ph paper back in 1993 I believe it was, I quit using soap. I switched brands to a
Sunrider product which is a soapless soap and is PH balanced for our skin. When I started using it, water started to bead off my skin again.
Commercial laundry detergents are among the highest level of alkalinity and literally burn your skin. Traces are left in our clothes after
washing and then we wear that all day long. No thanks. You haven’t met me in person, but trust me, I am known for my skin quality.

The Importance of Acid and Alkaline Balance for Health Virtually all degenerative diseases including cancer, heart disease, arthritis,
osteoporosis, kidney and gall stones, and tooth decay are associated with excess acidity in the body. While the body has a homeostatic
mechanism that maintains a constant pH 7.4 in the blood, this mechanism works by depositing and withdrawing acid and alkaline minerals
from other locations including the bones, soft tissues, body fluids and saliva. Therefore, the pH of these other tissues can fluctuate
greatly. The pH of saliva offers a window through which you can see the overall pH balance in your body. Cancer cannot exist in an alkaline
environment. All forms of arthritis are associated with excess acidity. Acid in the body dissolves both teeth and bones. Whatever health
situation you are faced with, you can monitor your progress toward a proper acid/alkaline balance by testing your saliva pH.
What are Acid and Alkaline? Water (H2O) ionizes into hydrogen (H+) and hydroxyl (OH-) ions. When these ions are in equal proportions,
the pH is a neutral 7. When there are more H+ ions than OH- ions then the water is said to be acid. If OH- ions outnumber the H+ ions then
the water is alkaline. The pH scale goes from 0 to 14 and is logarithmic, which means that each step is ten times the previous. In other
words, a pH of 4.5 is 10 times more acid than 5.5, 100 times more acid than 6.5 and 1,000 times more acid than 7.5.
Distilled water is acidic. Do not drink it. I did for years and I saw the signs of mineral depletion, I just didn’t recognize the cause.

Two Ways to Restore Acid/Alkaline Balance in Your Body
If your saliva is too acid you may wish to increase the alkalinity of your body. Ways to do this include:
1. Eat mostly alkaline foods. The general “rule of thumb” is to eat 20% acid foods and 80% alkaline foods. Avoid the “strongly acid” foods.
2. Supplement your diet with fresh fruit, raw plant foods, nuts, sprouts and vegetable juices. As a treatment for cancer, some doctors recommend one
8 oz glass per hour for every waking hour of the day. We could never eat the amount of nutrition we drink from fresh juices and/or some herbal
formulas of alkaline foods prepared by some live whole food companies. There are also some Chinese Herbal drinks that are highly concentrated

The simple saliva pH test you have just learned about can help ensure long life and improved health for you and your family. Be sure to
always have pH paper on hand so you can check yourself or other members of your family from time to time. Teach your children how
to do this test. Share this information with your friends. Steps That May Help You Beat Cancer Now let’s move on to an overview of
the many different things you can do to help yourself if you have cancer. As you will see, these steps will probably help you with
most other degenerative diseases as well. By the time you have learned how to deal effectively with cancer, you will have created
a firm basis for a life free from almost all degenerative disease.
To remove excess acidity from the tissues it is necessary to build up a reserve of alkalinity through an alkaline (raw food vegetarian) diet,
including fresh fruit, nuts, sprouts and vegetable juices. Then this alkalinity must be moved around the body by any technique that works,
such as exercise, massage, yoga, manual lymph drainage, etc. Vigorous exercise such as on the rebound mini-trampoline is reported to increase
lymph flow by 15 to 30 times. Restricting the quantity of food consumed gives the system an opportunity to cleanse itself. It is not always
necessary to eat. The digestive system requires a rest periodically, even if just one day each week. The consumption of fresh juices made
from organically grown fruits and vegetables during this time of reduced food consumption provides alkalinity to neutralize the acid wastes
released from the tissues. It is important to understand that the doctors are not recommending “fasting” in the sense that you consume nothing
but water. Rather they are recommending a liquid diet of fresh juices for a brief period (Diamond, pages 63, 341-42, 955).
