What A Golf Ball And String Can Teach You About Life
Listen for the Key Moment:What did the golf ball on the string teach Tom about what really matters?
[Rob's Note:] I think getting hung up on the past, what we were, what we used to do, be or have can get us down. It's not about what happened yesterday, last week, month or year, but about what we choose to do today and tomorrow that makes us who we really are.
I've fallen into this trap and beat myself up good a number of times.
know what?
I'm looking forward to what today brings. Getting to the gym today, getting out for my walk today, eating great whole food meals today, drinking plenty of distilled water today.
I'm focusing on today and tomorrow so that I can become my best today.

Should Your Focus Be Health
Could our focus on health be undermining the very fabric of our world?
Listen for the Key Moment:Listen this week as Doctor Tom, Director of the Nutrition Treatment Center, and I present the antidote to "health."
I'll tell you, this caught my attention and after listening to it for the first minute, I was becoming quite opposed to Shawn's position thinking "what the hell is he talking about?"
however, when it comes right down to it, I agree with his position. It's not just about focusing on health, but also on his other "secret ingredient" to fully complete the picture.
Very interesting podcast

What Should You Be Eating To Burn Fat
The answer:"It’s something you should eat every day, every meal."
Listen for the Key Moment:"You should eat this within an hour of waking up in the morning..."
On behalf of my special guest, Tom Bilella, D.C., C.C.N., Director of the Nutrition Treatment Center, Red Bank, NJ,
[Rob's Note:] This is so important that you should not only be eating this within the first hour, but every 3 hours all day long. This builds on the audio clip from a few weeks ago where Tom Bilella discussed the
3 by 3 meal frequency rule, eating 3 meals by 3 pm. It's a good plan to follow. The tip that Tom and Shawn talk about here was a defining moment in my life.
It's simple. Follow this rule, burn more fat!

Whats The Difference Between Appetite and Hunger?
The answer:"One arises from the neck up, the other is a natural desire to nourish your body."
Listen for the Key Moment:"An appetite is the sign of ..."
Rob Faigin of
Natural Hormone Enhancement talks about two different ways to describe hunger as well, namely
Hormonal Hunger vs
Cravings.
Rob says
"... it may be helpful to think of 'Hunger' as a general craving for food, and a 'craving' as hunger for a particular kind of food. Giving in to Hunger/Cravings does not mean that you are weak; they are immensely powerful biological drives.
Willpower has limits, but there are no limits to hunger and cravings. Conventional dieting puts willpower and appetite on a collision course. Unfortunately, this is a case of the irresistible force against the movable object: willpower weakens as the fight wears on, but hunger and cravings become stronger and stronger."
Since being on the
NHE eating plan for over 6 weeks now, I have to say that I have not had any cravings. Where I used to think of certain foods once in a while, now I just plod along doing my training, eating my protein/fat/veggies based meals and have no cravings. I suggested to a friend in Florida to try the NHE eating plan, and he as well said that just a few short days into the switch over from sugar burner to fat burner, his cravings as well disappeared.
I have not done an update on my Natural Hormone Enhancement (NHE) program for quite a few weeks now, so I'll be sure to do that soon.

Secret To Burning Calories Even At Rest
The answer:"Not to your bench press or lunges, but to the scale in the form of this highly sought after metabolic booster."
Listen for the Key Moment:When it comes to weight loss strategy I say add weight to lose weight...
[Rob's Note:] It's all about muscle.. the metabolic engine isn't it. My mission is to inspire as many people to begin weight training as a solution to health and healthy weight loss. Male or Female and at any age.
On that note, I'm currently discussing a book about a
Beginners Dumbbell Exercise Routine in the
weight loss forum. A friend who is 64, uses a scooter and is willing to give it a shot... weight training from her home, on her scooter, using dumbbells. She has an amazing weight loss story once weighing 414 pounds, but has used a low carb weight loss plan to shed over 100 pounds of that already. Her next step is to regain her strength and she's going to use dumbbells as a way to do that. She's a great roll model.
Ps. The greatest tip I can give anyone who has
hit a plateau in their weight loss, is to increase food intake along with an increase in exercise. Read more about

Are You Lifting Weights Or Strength Training?
by Shawn PhillipsThe answer:
The difference lies within where you put
your focus.
Listen for the Key Moment:Try this exercise...
I believe that it does not matter how much weight you're moving, as long as the form is correct and your objective is to facilitate growth, not just throwing the weight around.
Focus on your form always. In a recent training session I did with Russell Bridgeman, my training partner, he said to me "that was easy".. so I asked him "slow down then". Stop the momentum, focus on form.

Should You Train Muscles To Failure?
by Shawn PhillipsThe answer:For maximum results in the least amount of time, take a set to failure.
But first…build your neurological networks.
Listen for the Key Moment:Failure defined…
I agree... male or female, young or old, must follow this advice and this principal. On the same topic, sort of... , is about working your abs with hundreds of reps. Let me ask you this... would you pick up a dumbell and do 100 reps of curls to get better biceps? Would you do 100 reps of bench press with 25 pounds? or would you bench 200 pounds for 6 to 9 reps? Same thing goes for abs guys and gals. Low reps, high weight and high intensity.

Last week, I posted that I thought Shawn was reading my blog. Now I know that he's actually hiding in my office and looking over my shoulder because he and I are on exactly the same page on this. I've been writing about this very subject, just this past week. Shawn's a good guy. The interview I did with him was one of my most relaxed because we were on the exact same page. Have a listen. What's The Right Amount Of Time You Should Train
Brought to you by
Shawn PhillipsThe answer:It’s not about the distance (length of your workout), it's about the depth (quality of your intensity).
Join me this week when I share my insights on how to maximize your effectiveness and efficiency in the gym.
Shawn Phillips does a weekly "Start Strong" audio clip answering readers questions. I interviewed Shawn in 2003 and he became a part of my interview package at
Fat Loss Insider Secrets.
I've recently cut the amount of time I spend in the gym as well. Where I once spent 2 hours at a go, then cut back to an hour (and WILL NOT go over an hour), and have recently cut back even more. I get in, get the job done and get out. It's about Hormonally Intelligent Exercise like Rob Faigen, Jeff "the muscle nerd" Anderson, Nick Nilsson and many others talk about. It makes a lot of sense.
