Everything Follows Focus...

by Shawn Phillips

The answer:

Focus is the concentration of your attention…Everything in your life follows focus…

Join me this week when I share my insights on why focus is so crucial in training and in life.

Listen for the Key Moment:
Your degree of focus is directly related to your results.

I think Shawn is reading my blog. I posted something a few weeks ago about focus. Then today Shawn's audio message for Start Strong Mondays is about Focus! Coincidence? I think not. Proof that he's reading my blog? not likely.

Focus is very important to me, especially in the gym. It's through mental preparation and then visualization while I'm training that, I believe at least, gets me some really good results. I visualize my workout before I do it. This happens as I begin to think about what I'm going to train that day, the exercises I know I'm going to do. I do them over and over in my head before lifting anything. I do the same thing with Taekwondo. I've played out my Poomse (pattern) in my mind, in my car at a stop light, I don't know how many times.

But, visualization is not focus. Shawn's point is about doing one thing. My dad used to say
"Do one thing, Do it well, and then move on"
I still quote him to this day. I do multitask, yes, but if it's something that just has to be right, I focus on the one thing. I shut down my email, shut off the phone and get the job done.
