Use this challenge as a benchmark to see how you're improving.  Strength and speed are differnt values and can both change.

Doing pushups for time can stimulate your pecs in a much different way by performing more work in a shorter period of time.

It's a way to push yourself and use your muscles in a way they're not accustomed to.

Record your numbers and then check back to mark your improvements.

You might consider checking in once a month, once a quarter or as often as once a week.

Okay, I guess I could do more pushups than I thought.  Use my Pampered Chef timer (great gadget) and had my 8 yr old press start.

On 23-Dec-08, did 63 full pushups in 2 min.

Guess I got stronger this evening than I was earlier this afternoon.

Yep, this was tough for me too.

Did 69 in 2 minutes.

So now lets set some goals eh?  be able to break your PB in 30 days or less.

I'm shooting for 80 pushups in 2 minutes by Feb 13th (when I leave for Vegas for a week)

So, it's been OVER a year since I set that goal of being able to do 80 pushups by feb (of last year) and I”ve not tested for it.

I'm currently traveling by RV through the US and brought my kettlebells along.  Doing KB workouts and pushups outside the RV between days where I can find a gym.

I'll be doing another test to see where I'm at.  I KNOW for a fact that I can consistenly do sets of 25 back to back to back to back in a circuit I've created, so I should be able to shoot through those 80 pushups in 2 minutes easy.

Norm?  what say you?  have you progressed?

It seems that my thoughts on this speed / volume training is actually a system that someone else is talking about.  It's called Escalating Density Training or EDT.  Invented by Charles Staley

I simply thought to myself, “How can I do more volume?” and push myself for a personal best (PB) over a given time?  and… that by doing so, would actually work the muscle harder in a shorter period of time.  So I came up with this little drill.

who knew? lol
