This is one of my major goals. To be able to do ONE unassisted pullup. Don't know how long it will take to get there, but I will! I'm on week 1 of FLF and have 100 lbs to lose.

Very good goal EDJ.

I'm not sure if you read the pushup forum,  or if I even mentioned it there, but years ago, when I was 475 pounds, I could barely do 3 pushups and they were knee pushups at that.

I decided to do a few pushups every day knowing I would get stronger and be able to do 10 full pushups.

What's your plan for this personal pullup challange you've set for yourself?

Can I be of assistance in putting together some thoughts on it?

(I understand that part of it is to  reduce your weight and in doing so, the pullup would become easier, but I'm referring to a plan around strengthening your muscles so that the pullup is possible)

Rob, thanks for offering. I'd love your suggestions for how to work toward that pullup!

Hey Rob  my hat goes off to you..You Definatly have a nack for inspiration.

In my experience I have set goal for pullups  and chinups and it does take time to acheive.  I am now actually adding weights when I do chin ups now. But I was not always that strong. When I was going through basic training  we all had to do chinups as a fitness requirement. I was lucky at the time, I weighed only 159 lbs. there were few guys in the 200 to 300 lbs range and to help them out we assisted them by holding them by the feet and taking some of the weight  as they did them. each day we would assist them and eachday they would get stronger but also through out the weeks we were there, they were also losing weight. This was quite few years back but most the the guys that we helped manage to pull off atleast one chin up unassited.   So Everydayjoy keep oon chugging and if you could find some one to help you I feel it would benifit you.  at most play grounds they have lowered chin-up bars you might want to try self assisted chin-ups or leaning chin-ups  where you hang on an angle and puk you self up while your feet are still on the ground resting away from the bar it self.

I hope this helps. And keep it up I am sure you will reach your goal.

There's a machine at our gym that is called a “functional trainer”.  It allows you to attach a pressing bar to either side of the cables.  That is, one end attaches to both sides creating a bar that you can push out horizontally rather than vertically as in a bench press.

So… by attaching this bar, and adjusting the weight, and then putting the bar up higher, you could use a box to step up onto the bar.  If the weights on the racks total just slightly less than your own body weight, this allows you to do pullups with pounds that are much more manageable.

For example, if each stack has 100 pounds on it for a 200 lb total and your body weight is 260, you'd be pulling up 60 lbs, but getting used to the actual plane of moving.

Another way is using bands. You could use bands in a similar maner
