After my wife read Rob's challenge about going dairy free to me, something clicked and I decided that as of today, I choose to take the challenge and see what changes occur in my body, my mind and my life by making this choice. I am a huge cheese & butter lover, but I don't think I'll miss them… I had a sandwich at lunch today and for the first time ever, I said; “no cheese please”! Guess what… the chicken sandwich with tomato & a little BBQ sauce actually tasted a little better to me! Maybe it is in my head, as this is only the first day, but I believe that's where all of this has to be.
A way of thinking needs to take place in my life if I want to drop the pounds I need to and get healthy. Let's see what happens as I go Dairy Free!

It is a big day of firsts for me. I am joining my husband on the six month dairy free challenge as of today. I also did push-ups and squats for the first time in years!
This is going to be challenging for me as I absolutely love drinking ice cold glasses of milk and am a pretty big fan of cheese.
But after reading all of the negative impacts that dairy has on the body I am certainly ready to give it a try.

make sure you check in with your weights – not necesesarily here, but on your own, so you can monitor your progress eh!
Welcome to the forum you guys! I was checking out your cruise and Hawaii photos on facebook. Very nice.

Well, it's been 5 days dairy free so far, and you know what? I don't miss it at all! I do wonder if my body is craving it thought. Some evenings after dinner, when I know I am full, I still feel hungry. I know it isn't hunger, cause I just ate. I wonder if it's my body “crying out” for dairy or even a diet pepsi which I usually have each evening. So, I crush some ice and have a tall glass of water and simply ignore the craving! So far so good. When I got home from Hawaii last Sunday, I weighed myself and was a scary 299 lbs. The Wii today told me I was at 293, so something is working! Today was day 1 of week 1 of the “12 Weeks to a Former Fat Guy” program, so that combined with the dairy free challenge should prove to be quite exciting as the month(s) go on! I look forward to other's results also!
One thing I wonder though… other than the obvious… milk, cheese, yogurt, chocolate, ice cream, cream based soups… what products that we don't often think of actually contain dairy and should be a part of the dairy free challenge???

I have virtually given up dairy. The reason I say.. almost is that I still have SOME cheese. However I do not eat milk, yogurt, butter… If you want something to put on your oatmeal, try almond milk or rice milk.. I have to admit, milk drinking for me was a habit. I would drink 2 Litres of milk a day but no more!

So Tim, what have you learned about dairy and how it's used in so many items?
and what about bread? What did you learn there?

so Rob,Dairy Free for a week or two?that challenge is probably not as scary as i first thought,I'll just check a few things with you,Breaky(5am)- I have cereal with a skim milk,Soy milk isn't dairy i dont think so i can have that, what about the Cereal?its a healhty type one with the berries and stuff, not sure of the equivilent over there, morning tea(9am) i usually have a wrap with cheese, tomato, spinach leaves and meat of some sort plus a small tub of yoghurt.I can drop the cheese and yoghurt i think but is the “wrap” itself alright?lunch(12noon) is normally 3 or 4 pieces of fruit, dinner is varied from whatever the rest of the fam is having but am concious of unhealthy stuff to a salad wrap to nothing at all if i dont feel like it. I'm keeping fairly active-as well as the pushups i do weights three times a week in the morning (nothing to serious, arms, chest and legs, one per day),cardio as often as i can get to the gym after work(which prob works out about three times a week)but try for at least 1 1000 cal burnt in a hour or so session per week, and try for a two hour cycle ride every sunday morn.havent been drinking beer since new year but would like to indulge again once my goals are reached, since around the end of january have dropped from 98 kilos to 86 and am thinking theres five more kilos i could lose just looking at myself, love coffee and drink about 4 cups a day, also drink at least 5 litres of water every day. So what do you reckon?
Loading…
I'd recommend Almond milk over the soy milk. Almond milk is much healthier, but if you cant find it, then yes, Soy milk is an alternative to the milk.
yes, drop the cheese and yogurt
as for the rest, it looks fine. I might recommend an egg or two for breakfast with your cereal, but that's it.
you might also consider two nights a week where supper is 2 hard boiled eggs, then 2 hours later, 1 hard boiled egg. Keep everything else the same, but two days a week (in a row), do the 2 eggs, 1 egg routine. Do this for a couple of weeks along with the no dairy and see what happens
questions like this would be perfect for the forum. THat way everyone gets to see my responses
Yeah no worries Rob,I'll copy and paste it in to forum, not sure it belongs in the pushups tho, wasnt sure how personal i was going to get was why i went private
There is a dairy free topic in the forum
Yeah no worries,why hard boiled?
With a single egg or two eggs and nothing else, its easy to control the variables. Its just an egg. No added fat, nothing else. Digests quick. Holds off hunger. Creates a thermic event. Eventually you could manipulate the variables. 2 eggs, 3 eggs – whatever and test the results
ha ha thanks mate, nah i meant why hard boiled not poached or another way of cooking them? I have a rule of not eating after 7pm unless it is a special occasion like dining out or sometihng, what time are we talking eating eggs Rob and do you reckon this is a good rule or not?
Poached would be fine. Like I said, its about controling the variables. Hard boiled has no added oils (fats) so you can control the calories and food maekup (just protein). And yes after 7. Idealy, to burn fat, one would spread their daily calories per day over 5 or 6 meals regardless of the time
I'll eat at 6 and then 8 and 11 if I'm still up, but at that point I'm down to a single egg or a protein shake for 70 to 100 calories
Protein before bed is fine. Rice – not

Norm, I highly doubt your emotional eating is related to removing dairy, but you have to be the judge on that one. Removing dairy only improves your health and emotional function.
Foods act like drugs.
It's possible (if anything) that removing dairy removed a bunch of hormonal / steroid like triggers that your body is now working on rebalancing.
New Zealand has the cleanest cows and cleanest dairy. You're in Australia right? not NZ?
Get some Glutamine and begin supplementing with it. 2 to 5 grams 2 to 4 times a day. That should resolve some things.

Hello everyone.
This is my first post in the world of Rob.
After talking to him for 15mins on Twitter he's convinced me to give up Dairy!!! I'm going to give it up for a month starting tomorrow
The pros of a non-dairy diet are hugely convining now that I've read into it!
Good luck all!
Mike.

I picked up some glutamine the other day and am having capsule a day at the mo,i dont eat a huge amount of dairy, just a yoghurt a slice or two of cheese and a few cups of coffee with milk a day, thats about it,though i do drink a coffee if im feeling a bit peckish, settles it a bit,i drink 4 or 5 litres of water a day as well,i did miss the coffee alot on dairy free,i am willing to go dairy free again if the emotional eating dosent settle down again tho, might be a lot of things rob,the 5 kilos to go thing ,months on end with a fairly good diet just need to let off a bit of steam maybe ,that and some other stuff playing on me mind

Norm, if you've got 5kg to go only, you might want to consider slighly increasing your protein intake when you're peckish.
like 2 oz of chicken breast to each meal (5 to 6 meals a day you're having right?)
and snack on little chunks of chicken, 2 oz with some raw veggies.
if your peckish, peck at something that will support.
protiein should increase thermogenics and get rid of hunger
I don't want to advise any more for you because I'm not sure how your program has looked in the past or your exercise part.
if your exercise is increased and your food intake has gone down, your body may be slowing down it's metabolism and holding onto the last little bit.
Tom's book should advise well on this subject

A small uydate.
Been Dairy Free for a whopping two days.
Not missing it at all. I hope the benefits shine through in time
Either way, I will defnitely benefit from not consumnig the extra calories from milk and cheese etc – I'm aware Soya and Almond milk still have cals -
But I'm drinking milk as much now, so yay:)
Mike.
