1: Quick Intro:

If you're new to the n ewsletter I welcome you and if
you're a loyal subscriber then you'll be interested to
read this one. It's a long one, I'll forewarn you,
but I think its a critical one to read.

I recently came across some very interesting info
in regards to distilled water which has set off my
research into the subject of acid / alkaline (ph).

I was going to do an article on Human Growth Hormone
(HGH) and DHEA, but that'll have to wait because I
wanted to get this information out to you asap.

Our bodies Acid / Alkalkine balance has everything
to do with our health and our weight management.

On another note, I've very excited to tell you that
I'm getting my Fitness Talk Radio show back on the
air very soon and am lining up some guests. Most
will be bodybuilders and those in the fitness
industry and available on my website fitwisewell.com
but I am also taking the opportunity to interview
some people in the health, vegetarian, nutrition
fields and will post them on my website formerfatguy.

Dayna won last months contest and her gift pack
will be sent out to her soon, I promise Dayna.
Check at the end for details.

Until Next time,

2.Alkalinize or Die.

Catchy isn’t it? I’ll tell you, I put a lot of faith
in the universe. I trust it’s timing on everything
and of late, I’ve been directed towards familiarizing
myself with this whole alkaline / acid balance thing.

What does this have to do with weight loss? Let me
explain.

When I began my weigh loss journey from 475 down to
187, for a total drop of 288 pounds, I began by
eliminating some specific foods from my diet and then
increasing others. I was doing what I knew from
television ads, magazines etc and from what I had read
in some books. The specific foods I got rid of were
fried foods, vinegar, salt and dairy while I increased
whole foods, fruits and vegetables. What I had done
in essence was remove fatty, low fiber foods and
increased fresh whole foods. I had always said that I
went on a “low fat, high fiber diet”. Along with
that, I am realizing that the foods I chose and
eventually gravitated towards were less acidic and
more alkaline. Hmmmm, interesting. Recently I was
asked to do an interview for a friend in Washington
and in the pre-interview the friend and I were talking
about her newfound weigh loss success. She didn’t
have a lot of time to go into it then, but she said
she was following a highly alkaline diet and the fat
was just dropping off her. I’ll get back to her in a
moment. Then just a week or two ago I noticed an
article on a trusted friends website about distilled
water being bad and why he had chosen to end his
drinking of it. You can read that article on my
website at

www.formerfatguy.com/articles/water/distilled-water.asp.

The fact that my whole thinking about the value of
distilled water had been thrown out the window stunned
me. I had stopped drinking pure distilled water about
18 months ago when I was approached by a fellow and
asked to try this "water filter machine" which filters
tap water and then uses a process to make it more
alkaline. I can set the level of alkalinity by
choosing a setting. Frankly, I made some interesting
notices when I changed over. I noticed that the water
had taste, which distilled does not. But I also
noticed that my recovery time from my leg workouts
dropped. I was sore for a day and that was that. I
noticed that my fingernails changed again too. Hmmm,
more interesting stuff. I paid about $1200 for this
machine so I’m still using it. Then just a couple of
weeks ago (again with the timing of the universe), I
was being called back to distilled. I went out and
bought a jug of it. It tasted soooo gooood. That’s
when I found this article about distilled water. I
started reading around. I’ve posted two articles
about it on my website. You can start here

www.formerfatguy.com/articles/water/distilled-water.asp.

which will take you to the second one.

I’ve had some information stored on my computer about
the benefits of eating alkaline, and it’s like "I know
about 70% of it, and follow it 70% of the time, but
don’t really know..." you know? I am the type of
person who can read something, accept it’s values and
merit in fully understanding it while I read it, and
then I just have no need to remember the details.
Others know everything and why and can quote it like
verse. Well, I got out those old documents and am
incorporating them into this article.

Oh, so my friend in Washington.? I called her today to
ask her the secret of her alkaline diet magic. No
magic at all. She’s been following the principle’s
outlined in Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle which I just
reviewed on my website

www.formerfatguy.com/burnthefat/burn-the-fat-review.asp

and increasing her alkaline vegetables and grains and
incorporating some deep breating exercises designed to
fully oxegenate the blood. It’s only with fully
oxygenated blood that we can burn fat. Think of a
candle with the fat being our fat, the wick being the
carbs and the oxygen around it all required for
burning. Put a glass over the candle and it goes out.
This is why exercise is so important to any fat loss
program and why aerobics or cardio makes our muscle
more effiecient.

Jeremy Likness is still giving away his cardio CD for
free.

make sure you go check it out.

When I began exercising when I was at 385, it was a
walking program and I focused the whole time on deep
breathing while I was doing it. The purpose as far as
I was concerned was the deep breathing and fully
oxygenating my blood, not the exercise.

But I digress.

Did you know that alkaline foods can eliminate
heartburn? And it’s all natural. No Tums, Rolaids or
Pepto Bismol (I lived on the stuff and sipped on Pepto
Bismol during my sleep)

remainder of this article is on my website here:
www.formerfatguy.com/articles/alkalinize-or-die.asp

the article goes on about improving your skin, a
F R E-E recipe book offer (see link above) and how to
restore your alkaline / acid balance.

3. The Secret to Burning Fat Up To 300% Faster,
   by Tom Venuto

When is the best time of day to do your aerobic
exercise? The answer is any time! The most important
thing is that you just do it. Continuous
cardiovascular exercise, such as walking, jogging,
stairclimbing, or cycling, sustained for at least 30
minutes, will burn body fat no matter when you do it.
However, if you want to get the maximum benefits
possible from every minute you invest in your
workouts, then you should consider getting up early
and doing cardio before you eat your first meal - even
if you're not a "morning person." Early morning
aerobic exercise on an empty stomach has three major
advantages over exercising later in the day:

Early in the morning before you eat, your levels of
muscle and liver glycogen (stored carbohydrate) are
low. If you eat dinner at 7 p.m and you eat breakfast
at 7 a.m., that's 12 hours without food. During this
12-hour overnight fast, your levels of glycogen slowly
decline to provide glucose for various bodily
functions that go on even while you sleep. As a
result, you wake up in the morning with depleted
glycogen and lower blood sugar - the optimum
environment for burning fat instead of carbohydrate.
How much more fat you'll burn is uncertain, but some
studies have suggested that up to 300% more fat is
burned when cardio is done in a fasted, glycogen-
depleted state.

So how exactly does this work? It's quite simple,
really. Carbohydrate (glycogen) is your body's primary
and preferred energy source. When your primary fuel
source is in short supply, this forces your body to
tap into its secondary or reserve energy source; body
fat. If you do cardio immediately after eating a meal,
you'll still burn fat, but you'll burn less of it
because you'll be burning off the carbohydrates you
ate first. You always burn a combination of fat and
carbohydrate for fuel, but depending on when you
exercise, you can burn a greater proportion of fat
relative to carbohydrate. If doing cardio first thing
in the morning is not an option for you, then the
second best time to do it would be immediately after
weight training. Lifting weights is anaerobic
(carbohydrate-burning) by nature, and therefore
depletes muscle glycogen. That's why a post lifting
cardio session has a similar effect as morning cardio
on an empty stomach.

The second benefit you'll get from early morning
cardio sessions is what I call the "afterburn" effect.
When you do a cardio session in the morning, you not
only burn fat during the session, but you also
continue to burn fat at an accelerated rate after the
workout. Why? Because an intense session of
cardiovascular exercise can keep your metabolism
elevated for hours after the session is over. If you
do cardio at night, you will still burn fat during the
session, so you definitely benefit from it.

However, nighttime cardio fails to take advantage of
the "afterburn" effect because your metabolism drops
like a ton of bricks as soon as you go to sleep. While
you sleep, your metabolic rate is slower than any
other time of the day.

Burning more fat isn't the only reason you should do
your cardio early. The third benefit of morning
workouts is the "rush" and feeling of accomplishment
that stays with you all day long after an invigorating
workout. Exercise can become a pleasant and enjoyable
experience, but the more difficult or challenging it
is for you, the more important it is to get it out of
the way early. When you put off any task you consider
unpleasant, it hangs over you all day long, leaving
you with a feeling of guilt, stress and incompleteness
(not to mention that you are more likely to "blow off"
an evening workout if you are tired from a long day at
work or if your pals try to persuade you to join them
at the pub for happy hour.)

You might find it hard to wake up early in the morning
and get motivated to workout. But think back for a
moment to a time in your life when you tackled a
difficult task and you finished it. Didn't you feel
great afterwards? Completing any task, especially a
physically challenging one, gives you a "buzz." When
the task is exercise, the buzz is physiological and
psychological. Physiologically, exercise releases
endorphins in your body. Endorphins are opiate-like
hormones hundreds of times more powerful than the
strongest morphine. Endorphins create a natural "high"
that makes you feel positively euphoric!

Endorphins reduce stress, improve your mood, increase
circulation and relieve pain. The "high" is partly
psychological too. Getting up early and successfully
achieving a small goal kick starts your day and gives
you feelings of completion, satisfaction and
accomplishment. For the rest of the day you feel happy
and you feel less stress knowing that the most
difficult part of the day is behind you.

So, you say you're not a morning person? Take heart;
neither am I. I can sleep in like you wouldn't
believe! But I get up anyway because I know the effort
is worth the results. When I have a bodybuilding goal
that I am clearly focused on, such as reaching 4% or
5% body fat for a competition, I'm on my Stairmaster
for 45 minutes every morning at the crack of dawn
without fail. Sure it's a challenge at first, but you
know what? After a few short weeks, It's no longer a
chore and I'm "in the groove" - and you will be too.
Just try it. Make a commitment to yourself to do it
for just 21 days. Once those 21 days have gone by,
you'll already be leaner and you'll be on your way to
making morning workouts a habit that's as natural as
brushing your teeth or taking a shower. Once you start
getting used to feeling that buzz, you'll become
"positively addicted" to it. The more you do it, the
more you'll want to do it. Before you know it, early
morning cardio will your new habit; you'll b!
e leaner, your metabolism will be faster and you'll
feel fantastic all day long!

Quit Drinking Coffee and Tea...

For those eliminating or wanting to eliminate coffee
or tea from your diet, I recommend a whole food
beverage offered by Sunrider called Calli. Shao-lin
temple priests ate this formula of whole food herbs
as a salad for it's ability to improve mental clarity
and improved concentration.

Now available in a concentrated whole food beverage,
Calli is alkaline in nature and has less caffeine than
a carrot.

Calli can aid digestion and by it's alkaline nature,
less impurities are likely to be absorbed or retained
from normal digestion.
